Assam: Two arrested by Lakhimpur police over 'provocative' Delhi blast posts
North Lakhimpur: Lakhimpur police have arrested two persons in North Lakhimpur for their posts on social media over the recent bomb blast in Delhi.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Inamul Islam and Feroze Ahmed, who were picked up from different locations in North Lakhimpur on Thursday.
According to the police, the two were arrested for their provocative Facebook posts that could have led to a breach of public peace and harmony.
While reiterating that freedom of expression is a democratic right, the Lakhimpur police said it must be exercised responsibly, especially during times of national emergencies.
The Lakhimpur police also warned that social media monitoring has been intensified, and anyone found sharing unverified, false, or communally sensitive and provocative content will be dealt with strictly.
The police have requested the public not to forward unverified messages or images through social media platforms.
Police have also appealed to the public to immediately report any suspicious or hate-related posts to the nearest police station or cybercrime cell.
