Assam: Truck loaded with cattle seized in Guwahati

Guwahati: In an early morning operation on Tuesday, a police team from Guwahati, Assam seized a truck with 20 cattle illegally.

As per police sources, the cattle were being transported to Meghalaya through Jorabat and had no legal or valid documentation.

The incident took place around 5 am during a routine check at the Jorabat checkpoint bordering Assam and Meghalaya.

Acting on specific intelligence, the police intercepted a truck, registered as AS01KC9657.

On Checking the truck, the police found the cattle and with no valid documentation.

The driver, Phulchand Khan (35), and his helpers, Jahidul Islam (30) and Baser Ali (24), were all apprehended. All three hail from Barpeta district in Assam.

Upon inspection, the officers discovered the cattle being transported without any legal documentation.

The documents in general needed include ownership papers and veterinary certificates to transport cattle legally.

The driver and helpers claimed they were transporting the cattle from Baghbar in Assam to Byrnihat in Meghalaya.

The seized vehicle and the 20 cattle are currently impounded at the Jorabat Police Outpost, an official said. 

The police are carrying out further investigations.
