Assam: Traffic restrictions in Guwahati on June 4 for vote counting

Guwahati: In view of the counting of votes on Tuesday, June 4, for the Lok Sabha elections, specific traffic restrictions are being implemented in Assam’s capital Guwahati to ensure the safety of vulnerable road users and facilitate the free passage of emergency vehicles.

Heavy goods carrying vehicles are restricted on National Highway 27 (NH 27) within Guwahati city from Tuesday 4 am and until the counting process concludes. All vehicles coming from Jyotikuchi side towards Rajiv Gandhi Road will be diverted towards AK Azad Road.

No vehicles will be allowed to travel via Rajiv Gandhi Road towards the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre. Rajiv Gandhi Road will be designated as a No Vehicle Zone’ and ‘No Parking Zone,’ Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Guwahati, said in a statement.  

Vehicles will not be permitted to enter the service lane from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) side towards the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre. 

Vehicles coming from Garchuk towards the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre will not be allowed to enter the service lane towards the trade centre. The vehicles will be diverted onto NH 27 via the adjacent flyover.

However, this restriction is exempted for the election duty personnel, vehicles carrying poll-related materials and vehicles on emergency services, it added.

The statement further said that the emergency services like fire tenders, ambulances, vehicles carrying life saving drugs and oxygen cylinders among others will not be affected by these restrictions.
