Assam: Tinsukia Police arrest three, recover five stolen motorcycles
Guwahati: Acting on multiple complaints about rising bike thefts, Tinsukia Police on Thursday arrested three persons and recovered five stolen motorcycles, officials said.
The action followed several reports of thefts from different neighbourhoods over recent weeks.
Police officials said a special team was formed to track suspicious movements and identify possible theft networks.
Using CCTV footage, intelligence inputs and local leads, officers carried out raids at multiple locations. “Our team moved quickly and apprehended the three accused in a short period,” an official stated. “Recovering five stolen bikes confirms that this gang was operating in a planned and organised manner.”
Residents who had reported the thefts said the incidents had raised security concerns. “The frequent thefts show that our law-and-order machinery in Tinsukia needs stronger vigilance,” one resident commented.
Police said the accused are being questioned to trace more stolen motorcycles and identify others linked to the group. “We suspect a larger network is involved. Further arrests are expected soon,” investigators said.
The Assam Police DGP and the police headquarters praised the Tinsukia Police for the swift operation. “Such quick operations help rebuild public trust,” a senior officer noted.
Authorities said patrolling and surveillance would be strengthened to prevent similar incidents.
Police sources said Tinsukia district continues to face challenges related to organised criminal activities, including drug trafficking along the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border, child trafficking, cattle smuggling, and illegal gambling and liquor trade.
Officials said these areas require sustained enforcement efforts.
