Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 1 announced that Assam's subsidised masur dal, sugar and salt distribution programme will remain suspended from June under the current Vote-on-Account arrangement.

In a statement issued through the Chief Minister's Office, the government said the scheme is likely to resume from August after the Assembly passes the full state budget.

Despite the pause in the subsidised commodities scheme, there will be no change in the supply of free rice under the food security programme.

Eligible beneficiaries will continue receiving their monthly allocation as usual.

Officials attributed the decision to expenditure limitations under the Vote-on-Account framework, which permits only essential government spending until the full budget is approved.

The scheme provides masur dal, sugar and salt at subsidised rates to eligible families across the state.

According to the government, the benefits will be restored once the full budget receives legislative clearance.
