Assam: Teacher, youth arrested in Dibrugarh for allegedly harassing girls on school trip

Dibrugarh: Police arrested a teacher of Lezai Higher Secondary School and another youth from the Lezai area of Assam’s Dibrugarh for allegedly sexually harassing girls.

The accused were identified as Atuwar Rahman (48) and Rajesh Thakur (32).

According to police, Atuwar Rahman, the teacher of Lezai HS school, had taken the school students on an excursion tour in Sivasagar.

Atuwar Rahman is a resident of Bilasipara in Dhubri, while Rajesh Thakur is a resident of Lezai in Dibrugarh.

"The girls complained that Atuwar Rahman gave them vodka during the excursion tour. Inside the bus, the girls were offered vodka, and when they consumed it, the teacher attempted to sexually harass them," said a police official.

A case (Case No. 110/2025) under Section 75(2) BNS, read with Section 10 of the POCSO Act and read with Sections 75/77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, was registered at Borbaruah Police Station.

Rajesh Thakur is not associated with the school. He is a resident of Lezai and went on the excursion with them.

Both individuals were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police officials stated that the investigation is underway to ascertain further details related to the incident.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken as per the law to ensure justice.
