Digboi: In a remarkable story of grit and determination, Nurjahan Begum, a specially-abled challenged student of Pengeree Higher Secondary School in Tinsukia district, has successfully cleared the HSLC examination despite severe financial constraints and personal hardships.

Born on August 12, 2007, Nurjahan is the daughter of Md Abdul Shahid and Kulsuma Begum, a family living below the poverty line. With limited resources and little external support, her academic journey has been fraught with challenges.

Undeterred by these difficulties, she secured 281 marks out of 600, passing the examination in Second Division. Her subject-wise performance reflects consistency—Assamese (43), English (40), General Mathematics (37), General Science (37), and Social Science (44), along with an impressive 80 marks in Elective Health Care.

School authorities described her achievement as “exceptional under the circumstances,” highlighting her discipline and perseverance. “Despite her physical condition and financial struggles, she remained focused and committed to her studies throughout,” a teacher said.

However, even as she crosses this important academic milestone, uncertainty looms over her future. Her family’s inability to afford further education has put her aspirations at risk, raising concerns about whether she will be able to continue her studies.

Local residents and community members have appealed for immediate support from government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and well-wishers to help her pursue higher education.
