North Lakhimpur: Six houses were completely gutted in a major fire breakout in North Lakhimpur on Monday afternoon. The disaster occurred at Khelmati near North Lakhimpur University in the late afternoon at the residence of one Farukh Rahman.

An LPG cylinder blast caused the fire which quickly spread to the densely populated area under Khelmati Police Outpost of North Lakhimpur.

According to local residents, the spread of fire to the neighbouring houses led to the blasts of three more LPG cylinders aggravating the inferno further. Six houses were completely razed in the fire, including properties worth crores. Fire tenders doused the flames after several hours of operation.

The Lakhimpur district administration provided relief materials on Tuesday, consisting of food and essential commodities and sheets for temporary beds. The District Commissioner of Lakhimpur and local MLA Manab Deka also visited the affected area to take stock of the situation and ensured every assistance for the affected households.
