Assam: Sivasagar’s Borpukhuri Path to get beautification, tourism boost, says Akhil Gogoi
Guwahati: Raijor Dal chief and Assam's Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday said that significant progress has been made in transforming Borpukhuri Path, the city’s vibrant lifeline, into a fully beautified corridor.
MLA Gogoi remarked, “This is more than a pathway, it is Sivasagar’s heart. By March, it will be fully transformed.”
Gogoi inspected the site and directed officials to complete the project by March next year.
The four-kilometer stretch, funded under the Central Government’s ‘Ten Cities’ initiative and a state allocation of nearly Rs 25 crore, is undergoing comprehensive reconstruction.
Borpukhuri is not just a road; it is the pulse of Sivasagar.
Lined with key institutions, from the Deputy Commissioner’s office to the Circuit House, and from the historic Shivadol to Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College, it remains the town’s busiest artery.
Accompanied by the central government-appointed engineer, PWD (Roads) Divisional Executive Engineer Anupam Hazarika, SDO Prashanta Budhagohain, the concerned contractor, and APDCL engineers, Gogoi reviewed ongoing works.
He shared photographs comparing the current state of the path with the proposed modern design, emphasizing enhanced aesthetics, safety, and pedestrian infrastructure.
Local residents have welcomed the development, though some urged faster execution.
The project is expected to boost tourism and commerce in the historic town.
Following the MLA’s directive, engineers have intensified supervision to meet the deadline.
This initiative marks a significant step in Sivasagar’s urban renewal.
