Assam SIT to file charge sheet in Zubeen Garg 'murder' case on Friday
Guwahati: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police is set to file its charge sheet in the Zubeen Garg 'murder' case on Friday before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup (Metro).
The investigation pertains to the unexplained death of the celebrated singer, who died on September 19 while swimming in Singapore during a visit to the North East India Festival.
Police have arrested seven people in connection with the case. Five of them are lodged in the Baksa district jail, while the other two remain in judicial custody at the Haflong sub-jail in Dima Hasao district.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the progress and stated, “The SIT will submit the charge sheet, and the court will scrutinise it. The court will punish the guilty. Once the charge sheet is filed tomorrow, the police will complete their responsibility, and the judicial process will begin. I have full faith that the court will ensure justice.”
He appealed to the public to maintain trust in the legal system, assuring that the truth will prevail.
The SIT, functioning under the supervision of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), took over the probe after more than 60 FIRs related to the singer’s death were registered across Assam.
