Pegu said several schools in Sivasagar and Charaideo are unlikely to be ready by August 10 because restoration work is still in progress.

Guwahati: Schools across Assam's flood-hit districts are expected to reopen on August 10, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, adding that temporary arrangements will continue for students whose schools remain unfit for classes.

Pegu said the priority is to ensure students' education is not disrupted despite the damage caused to several schools by the recent floods. The government is working to keep academic activities running.

Educational institutions that remain under water or filled with mud will not be able to reopen immediately. Until those campuses are cleaned and restored, classes for their students will be conducted at nearby relief camps.

Schools ready to reopen will accommodate students from neighbouring flood-affected institutions to ensure their studies continue.

Pegu added that several schools in Sivasagar and Charaideo are unlikely to be ready by August 10 as restoration work is still in progress.

The government is preparing the remaining institutions in phases so regular classes can resume as soon as conditions permit.
