Assam: Ro-Pax vessel collides with ferries in Dhubri, two injured
Guwahati: At least two persons were injured after a passenger vessel collided with several ferries at the Jogomaya Ghat (port) in Dhubri, Assam on Monday.
The Ro-Pax ferry named MV Bob Khathing, operated by the Indian Water Transport Authority met with an accident on the morning.
The incident, which occurred around 9:30 am at Jogomaya Ghat, involved a collision with several cargo-laden ferries and resulted in two injuries and the capsizing of one ferry.
The vessel reportedly suffered a mechanical failure causing the hydraulic brakes to lock unexpectedly.
A strong river current pushed the ferry backwards, leading to the collision with six to seven cargo vessels and a passenger ferry despite attempts by the crew on board to control it.
The impact caused significant damage to the lower sections of the cargo boats.
The two individuals who sustained injuries in the accident were promptly transported to Dhubri Medical College Hospital for treatment.
An investigation is being carried out into the incident to determine the cause of the mechanical malfunction and assess any potential safety violations.
