Guwahati: Travel restrictions on the Kaziranga section of the national highway in Assam have slightly been relaxed citing improved flood conditions.

Effective immediately, light motor vehicles and buses are allowed to travel through the area under normal conditions.

However, speed limits will be strictly enforced, said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

However, trucks are required to travel only in convoy.

"With the overall flood situation improving, light motor vehicles and buses can now move through the Kaziranga section of the national highway as usual, with speed restrictions in place. Trucks, however, must travel in convoy," said CM Sarma in a post on X.

This change follows the significant improvement in flood conditions within Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.

Earlier, on July 1, diversions were implemented to protect wildlife displaced by the floods and seeking refuge outside the park.
