Assam: Prisoner escapes police custody from hospital in Haflong
Haflong: Ronaldo Haflongbar, an undertrial prisoner, reportedly escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at Assam's Haflong Civil Hospital.
Haflongbar was lodged in the Haflong Sub-Jail and had been shifted to the hospital for medical attention.
According to sources, Haflongbar managed to flee by breaking the bathroom window of the hospital.
Police have launched a search operation across Haflong and surrounding areas in Dima Hasao district.
Haflongbar, a resident of Gunjung village under Haflong Police Station in Dima Hasao, had been booked earlier for a physical assault case.
Haflong Sub-Jail, one of Assam's older facilities, has faced scrutiny in the past for security issues, including a recent escape by former DNLT cadre Betsing Jidung in November.
This latest incident has raised fresh concerns about oversight at both the jail and the hospital.
