Assam polls: Nomination process concludes for 5 Guwahati seats; 26 candidates in fray
Guwahati: The nomination process for five key Assembly constituencies in Guwahati has concluded for Assam’s upcoming Assembly elections, with 26 candidates from various parties filing their papers.
The contests will span the constituencies of Jalukbari, Guwahati Central, New Guwahati, Dispur, and Dimoria.
In Jalukbari (seat 37), Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will contest on a BJP ticket. Congress has fielded Bidisha Neog, while Deepika Das represents the Bhumi Adhikar Party.
Guwahati Central (seat 36) has seven candidates, including BJP’s Vijay Kumar Gupta, Assam Jatiya Parishad’s Kunki Chowdhury, Aam Aadmi Party’s Anurupa Dekaraja, BAP’s Prabin Jyoti Kalita, Trinamool Congress’ Abhijit Majumdar, Forward Bloc’s Bipul Debnath, and independent Achyut Kalita.
New Guwahati (seat 35) will see five candidates: BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, Congress’ Santanu Borah, AAP’s Aditya Gogoi, Gana Suraksha Party’s Chinmoyee Bhuyan, and independent Kushal Kumar Sharma.
In Dispur (seat 33), Congress’ Mira Borthakur Goswami, BJP’s Pradyut Bordoloi, AAP’s Ballav Patra, and independents Jayanta Kumar Das and Ayush Kumar Singh have filed nominations.
Dimoria (seat 34) features AGP’s Bhupen Das, Congress’ Kishore Kumar Baruah, and four independent candidates: Nitul Das, Bhaskarjyoti Saikia, Pratibha Das, and Kaberi Das.
Submitted nominations will be verified on March 24. Candidates may withdraw their nominations until March 26. Polling across Assam is scheduled for April 9, with results expected on May 4.
