Assam: Police officer reserve closed after suspect dies by suicide in custody

Guwahati: A police official in Barpeta, Assam has been reserved closed while another was suspended following the suicide of a suspect in custody.

The incident occurred at the Mandia Police Outpost on Wednesday.

According to reports, the suspect, Lutfor Rahman alias Rinku Ali from Number 4 Bordoloni Gaon village, was apprehended by police on suspicion of theft.

He was later found dead by suicide inside the outpost.

In response to the incident, disciplinary actions were taken against police personnel at the Mandia Outpost. Susmita Bora, the in-charge (IC), was closed to reserves, while LC Roushan Ali was suspended.

Additionally, a home guard jawan was dismissed from service.

Superintendent of police (SP), Pankaj Yadav, ordered the disciplinary actions.
