Assam: Police officer found dead, woman injured in suspected suicide incident in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Tragically, a police officer from Namrup police station was discovered deceased in Rangpuria, Lahowal in Dibrugarh district of Assam on Saturday.

The officer, identified as Anupam Gowala, is suspected to have taken his own life using his service pistol.

He held the position of in-charge at Namrup police station in Assam.

Additionally, a woman was critically injured during the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College hospital.

Sources indicate that the incident took place at the residence of Bipul Gogoi in Rangpuria, Lohowal.

The injured woman has been identified as Bishnupriya Lahon, the wife of Bipul Gogoi.

Reports suggest that the police officer discharged four rounds from his firearm.

It is suspected that he may have shot the woman before taking his own life.

A villager recalled hearing a loud sound around 2 pm, initially assuming it was an electrical short circuit.

Upon investigation, they discovered the officer and the woman lying on the ground.

The motive behind the incident remains unclear, though there are suspicions of an illicit relationship between the officer and the woman.
