Assam unveils plan for governance overhaul: Focus on accountability & efficiency
GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled plans for a significant governance overhaul in the state, emphasizing accountability and efficiency among government employees.
Addressing reporters, Sarma announced measures to penalize employees for delays in processing public applications, marking Assam as the pioneer state in ensuring such accountability.
Sarma detailed the establishment of a dedicated body tasked with addressing complaints from the public regarding delays in government office work.
He explained that individuals could file complaints at the district level against any Assam government employee responsible for such delays.
If the initial complaint remains unresolved, a second complaint can be lodged, triggering an investigation by a specially appointed commission.

The Assam chief minister underscored the transformative impact of these measures on the functioning of government offices across the state.
He revealed the appointment of a commission chairman to oversee these efforts, expressing confidence that the changes would become evident to the public following the conclusion of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
