Guwahati: An oversized trailer blocked the Tinsukia–Dibrugarh railway line in Assam for more than four hours on Sunday after the vehicle tried to sneak through a level crossing without permission.

A Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) spokesperson confirmed that the trailer, engaged by a private firm working on a contract for Oil India Limited (OIL) in Duliajan, attempted an unauthorised entry and became stuck around 5:30 am between Lahoal and Chaulkhowa at crossing number 21DD.

Because of the obstruction, several major passenger trains—among them the 12424 Rajdhani Express, 15928 Tambaram Express, and 15946 Lokmanya Tilak Express—were forced to halt or were delayed. Train operations on the stretch remained suspended for nearly four and a half hours.

NFR arranged road transportation to take stranded passengers of long-distance trains to Dibrugarh. Officials also distributed food packets and drinking water while the disruption continued.

Rescue teams finally removed the trailer at around 10:10 am. Railway authorities detained the vehicle’s driver and have begun coordinating with OIL to initiate strict action against the contractor responsible, aiming to prevent similar violations in the future.
