Assam: One killed, two forest officials injured by elephant in Sonitpur

Guwahati: One person was killed while two forest officials were injured after being attacked by a wild elephant in Sonitpur, Assam on Friday night.

According to officials, a herd of wild tuskers had come out of the forest in search of food.

During this visit, one of the elephants moved towards human inhabited areas.

During this, it came face-to-face with a man identified as Jatin Tati near Dhiraimajuli in Dekhiajuli.

While Tati tried to escape from the jumbo, it attacked him and before any medical help could arrive, he died on the spot.

The elephant later on attacked two forest officials who tried to chase it back to the forest.

The forest department officials somehow survived the attack but were severely injured.

They have been shifted to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.

Efforts to send the elephants back to the forest are still on, a forest official said.
