Assam: One arrested with massive contraband cough syrup consignment in Karimganj

Guwahati: A massive consignment of contraband cough syrup was seized from a truck near the Churaibari on the Assam-Tripura border on Sunday.

Police said that the seizure took place at a checkpost in Churaibari in Karimganj, Assam.

One person identified as Sonu, a resident of Uttar Pradesh was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The police said that during a routine check, the police intercepted a truck bearing registration number HR37E7205.

On checking the truck, the police found a hidden compartment in the truck bed filled with 22 cartons of suspected contraband cough syrup bottles.

In total, the police found 3300 bottles of cough syrup.

The police said that the consignment was on its way to Agartala in Tripura.

However, an investigation regarding this is being carried out by the police.
