Guwahati: The Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam holds significant prominence and generates extensive discussions within the region.

Comprising eight Assembly constituencies, Nagaon is poised for a competitive electoral battle featuring candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (INC), and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

In the 2019 elections, the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat witnessed a substantial turnout, with 17, 94,648 electors and a voter turnout of 14, 93,475.

Pradyut Bordoloi of the Indian National Congress emerged victorious in the previous election, unseating BJP's Rajen Gohain, who had held the seat since 1999.

The Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency encompasses eight Assembly seats: Jagiroad, Laharighat, Marigaon, Dhing, Rupahihat, Samaguri, Nagaon, Batadrava, and Raha.

Among these, BJP holds Jagiroad, Nagaon, and Marigaon, while Laharighat, Rupahihat, Samaguri, Raha, and Batadrava are under Congress, with Dhing secured by AIUDF. Notably, a sitting MLA from Raha switched allegiance to BJP.

It's worth mentioning that the Nagaon-Batadrava seat was consolidated into one following the recent delimitation, abolishing the Batadrava seat.

According to Election Commission of India (ECI) data, there are a total of 1,804,472 voters, comprising 908,860 males and 895,612 females.

In the upcoming 2024 elections, the key contenders include Pradyut Bordoloi from the Indian National Congress, Suresh Bora from the BJP, and Aminul Islam from AIUDF.

Bordoloi, the incumbent MP, faces competition from Islam, the sitting MLA from Dhing Assembly constituency. Meanwhile, Bora, who recently switched allegiance from Congress to BJP, previously contested thrice from the Barhampur Assembly seat on a Congress ticket, losing on all occasions.
