Haflong: To intensify the rural development initiative in Dima Hasao, Assam, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) inaugurated its new district development manager (DDM) office at Haflong on Wednesday.

The new office establishment is the 18th DDM office in Assam.

The inauguration programme was organized at the NL Daulagupu Sports Complex conference by Donphainon Thaosen, Executive Member (EM), North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in the presence of Probita Johori, EM NCHAC.

Principal Sectary of NCHAC Thai Tsho Daulagupu, James Aind, ADC graced the program.

The inaugural program was also attended by NABARD CGM, Assam Loken Das via video conference.

Nabin Kumar Roy, NABARD, GM Assam said that the establishment of the office will be instrumental in providing guidance for effective credit planning, technical assistance, and guidance on various schemes aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, rural infrastructure, and overall development of the districts.

He also said NABARD is on to create a handloom route map in Assam and will bat for a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for the locally woven fabrics of the district and streamline the local weavers to boost their livelihood.

EM Thaosen said that the establishment of an office in the district will surely uplift the rural economy, create business opportunities and generate employment as the district has its resources for the production of agriculture and horticulture goods.

District development manager, Sanasam Amarjit Mangang said that they will initially collaborate with Large Area Multipurpose Societies (LAMPS) and focus on the skill development of the locals while simultaneously developing the district.

He also said that to reach the remote areas of the district, a team of CFL will be deployed across the district to spread awareness of schemes and projects under NABARD and will streamline beneficiaries with experts, departments and banks for better productivity.
