Assam: Missing truck driver’s body recovered in Lakhimpur, vehicle theft suspected
North Lakhimpur: In a suspected case of vehicle theft, the body of the driver of a missing truck was recovered in Chauldhowa in Assam’s Lakhimpur on Friday.
The body was recovered under the bridge of the Subansiri River near the Chauldhowa Police Outpost and has been identified as Keshwa Kumar (32) of Uttar Pradesh.
He was driving the truck, RJ 18 GC 7665, from Bikaner in Rajasthan to North Lakhimpur, carrying snack products from Bikaji.
The cargo was addressed to GK Traders, North Lakhimpur.
According to Sanjay Yadav, the owner of the container truck, the vehicle was last tracked at 11:30 at night at Siva Mandir, North Lakhimpur, before it went off the GPS radar.
As the container, carrying cargo worth Rs 15 lakh, went missing, the addressee, GK Traders, North Lakhimpur, filed a complaint at North Lakhimpur Police Station.
Investigating the complaint, Lakhimpur police recovered the body of the missing vehicle's driver.
It is believed that vehicle lifters kidnapped and murdered the driver before driving away with the container truck.
