Assam: Miscreants set police patrol post on fire along Meghalaya border
Guwahati: Unidentified attackers set fire to a temporary police patrolling post in West Karbi Anglong district, located along the Assam-Meghalaya border, on Saturday night.
Reports indicate that no police personnel were present at the post in Chirilangso, Tapat area, when it was targeted.
The incident has caused panic among local residents. The police patrol post was established in response to an ongoing border dispute between the Khasi people of Meghalaya and the Karbi people of Assam.
"A security team rushed to the location after the incident, but the post was already burned down," said an official. Sources claim there have been previous clashes between residents of the two neighboring states in the area.
"Security has been increased in the area following the incident," said a police official.
