Golaghat: Assam minister Atul Bora is at the centre of a controversy after being accused of ‘illegally’ administering vaccines to flood-affected animals.

The accusations arose following the circulation of photographs on social media showing Atul Bora vaccinating animals at a veterinary camp in Bongkuwal village in Assam.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), a prominent farmers’ organization, has filed a police complaint against Assam minister Atul Bora.

Hirakjyoti Saikia, the Golaghat general secretary of KMSS, contended that Atul Bora’s actions could endanger the animals since he lacks the requisite veterinary qualifications.

According to Saikia, this constitutes a punishable offense under the law.

A senior official from Golaghat police station in Assam confirmed that they have received the complaint.

However, an FIR has not yet been registered as the case is currently under investigation to determine the appropriate legal steps.

In response to the backlash, Atul Bora defended his actions, stating that he has been vaccinating pets since childhood, a practice common in the region.

“I have been involved in animal care for years, and this is not something new to me,” the Assam minister said.
