Assam: Massive search underway for five missing after drowning in Brahmaputra
Guwahati: A tragic drowning incident occurred at Bhakti Kutir, Kharghuli, in Assam’s Guwahati, on the banks of the Brahmaputra River on the morning of December 10, 2025.
Around 12:37 PM, a group of eight individuals entered the river.
While three of them managed to rescue themselves and were taken to a hospital for treatment, five remain missing.
The Pandu Fire & Emergency Services Station (F&ESS) immediately alerted rescue agencies.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams were deployed to conduct search and rescue operations.
As of the latest updates, no bodies have been recovered, and the identities of the missing persons have not yet been confirmed.
Rescue efforts have been ongoing since the incident. On December 11, NDRF and SDRF teams resumed operations at 6:45 AM, engaging four rubber boats and deep divers to locate the missing individuals.
Despite the continuous search, the five persons are still unaccounted for.
The area has been secured to ensure civilian safety while the teams conduct their operations.
Authorities have confirmed that the three rescued individuals are under medical supervision, with further updates awaited from the hospital.
Multiple agencies continue to work together, sharing resources to intensify the search. Regular situation reports are being issued from the scene.
The incident has prompted officials to urge the public to exercise caution near riverbanks, particularly during high water levels.
