Assam: Man rapes minor girl’s dead body, arrested

SILCHAR: A man has reportedly been apprehended by the police for allegedly raping the corpse of a minor girl at a government-run hospital’s mortuary in Karimganj district of Assam.

The accused, identified as Manju Rabi Das, was employed as a sweeper at the Karimganj civil hospital in Assam.

Partha Pratim Das, SP of Karimganj district in Assam, revealed that an unnatural death case involving a minor girl was reported from Bazaricherra area of the district.

“The body was placed in the mortuary of Karimganj civil hospital for a post-mortem examination scheduled for the following day. However, when doctors arrived at the mortuary for the procedure, they observed injury marks on her body, contrary to the report provided by the executive magistrate,” stated Partha Pratim Das.

Following further investigation, the police detained the sweeper on duty, identified as Manju Rabi Das, who confessed to engaging in sexual acts with the dead body.

Consequently, a case was registered, and the body of the minor girl was transferred to Silchar medical college and hospital (SMCH) in Assam for additional forensic examination.

The authorities in Assam have initiated further inquiries into the matter.
