Assam: Man murdered over alleged goat theft in Naharkatia

Guwahati: A young man was reportedly murdered on Monday evening in Dibrugarh, Assam on allegations of goat theft.

The incident took place at a tea estate in Naharkatia.

Some reports stated that the victim, identified as Arjun Bauri, was returning home when he "accidentally" kicked a goat, triggering a confrontation with the animal's owners.

Anup Gowala and his wife, residents of the same tea estate, accused Bauri of attempting to steal their goat.

The confrontation then turned violent and in a fit of rage, the couple attacked Bauri with a sharp machete, inflicting critical injuries.

Despite being rushed to Naharkatia Civil Hospital, Bauri succumbed to his wounds.

The incident sparked outrage among locals and the victim's family, leading to a tense situation at the Naharkatia police station later.

Following a complaint filed by Bauri's father, the police arrested Anup Gowala and his wife. An investigation is underway by the police.
