Local residents claimed that another man died near the same railway stretch a few days ago without attempting to cross the tracks in Pathsala, Bajali district.

Pathsala: A man died while trying to save a 14-year-old girl from an oncoming train in Batua village of Assam's Bajali district on Monday. Both were hit by the up-bound Sifung Express and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, some local residents said the latest incident was not an isolated case. They claimed that another man died near the same railway stretch a few days ago without attempting to cross the tracks in Pathsala, Bajali district.

Residents also alleged that several people have died along the railway stretch over the years because many pedestrians use unofficial shortcuts to cross the tracks.

They urged the Railway authorities to install iron fencing on both sides of the railway line to prevent trespassing and direct people to designated crossing points.

They said such measures could help prevent similar accidents in the future.
