Assam: Leopard carcass recovered in Dibrugarh, poisoning suspected
Dibrugarh: The carcass of an adult leopard was recovered from Koimari Chamua Gaon under the Khowang forest range in Assam's Dibrugarh on Sunday morning.
It is suspected that the leopard may have been poisoned.
A forest team from Khowang reached the spot and took the carcass for post-mortem.
"We have found the carcass of an adult leopard at Chamua Gaon. After the post-mortem, we will be able to say how the leopard died," said Khowang forest ranger Akshay Burgohain.
Human-leopard conflict has been rising rapidly in Upper Assam due to the shrinking of forest cover, and leopards are often seen venturing into human habitation in search of food, resulting in conflict.
In another incident, a woman was attacked by a leopard at Raidang Tea Estate in Doomdooma, Tinsukia district of Upper Assam, on Saturday morning.
The woman, identified as Mira Gajin, was attacked while working in the garden.
According to reports, she was plucking tea leaves when the leopard attacked her.
"The woman sustained injuries to her hand and was admitted to a hospital. She is currently receiving treatment at Doomdooma FRU Hospital," said a forest official.
Meanwhile, locals staged a protest outside the local forest department office, demanding the quick capture of the big cat, as it has been terrorising residents for some time now.
