GUWAHATI: Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in the Northeast state of Assam.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, voter turnout in the Lakhimpur parliamentary seat in Assam stood at 75.17 percent.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the total electorate counts in the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency stood at 15,77,234, with 7,86,335 male voters, 7,90,882 female voters, and 17 voters identifying as the third gender.

Historically, the Congress party has wielded significant influence in Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, clinching victories in the early years post-independence.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Pradan Baruah of the BJP clinched victory in the Lakhimpur constituency by securing 7,76,406 votes.

Meanwhile, Congress party’s Anil Borgohain garnered 4,25,855 votes.

Sarbananda Sonowal, also from the BJP, emerged victorious in Lakhimpur, securing a substantial margin of over 2,92,138 votes against his closest opponent, Ranee Narah of the Congress in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

In the upcoming election, the BJP nominated Pradhan Baruah, while the Congress has put forth Uday Shankar Hazarika as their candidate for the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency in Assam will go to polls in April this year. The date of voting is April 19 (Phase 1).
