Guwahati: Visitors planning a trip to Kaziranga National Park in Assam this tourist season will need to wait a bit longer.

The park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its one-horned rhinoceros population, will remain closed for both elephant and jeep safaris throughout the 2023-24 season due to inclement weather and road conditions.

A notification issued by the Divisional Forest Officer of the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division cites these factors as the reason for closure.

The elephant safari closure will begin on May 1, 2024, while jeep safaris will be suspended starting May 16, 2024, said a notification.

The park typically closes annually during the monsoon season, which brings heavy rains and can make road conditions treacherous.

Tourists looking to experience Kaziranga's beauty will have to wait until the park reopens for the next tourist season.
