Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is set to complete the redevelopment of Kamakhyaguri Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), officials announced on Monday.

The station has undergone major upgrades, including a new station building featuring an improved entrance lobby and circulating area.

Workers have renovated the platforms with Kota-stone surfacing, installed modern signage, and constructed a new 12-meter-wide foot overbridge with lift facilities.

They have also upgraded passenger amenities, including waiting halls, toilet blocks, parking spaces, and multi-theme lighting.

Local artists and designers have incorporated cultural elements, creating a modern, accessible, and visually enriched environment for travelers.

Under the ABSS, NFR is redeveloping 92 stations across the region in phases. Assam accounts for 50 stations, West Bengal 23, Bihar 9, Tripura 4, and other North-Eastern states 6 stations.

The upgrades focus on enhanced passenger amenities, improved accessibility, revamped circulating areas, modern station façades, and multimodal integration, with the aim of providing safe, convenient, and future-ready infrastructure.

“With Kamakhyaguri station nearing completion, NFR reaffirms its commitment to delivering world-class facilities and modern travel experiences to the people of Northeast India and adjoining states,” an NFR spokesperson said. “These transformations mark significant progress toward cleaner, safer, and more efficient railway stations, in line with the national vision for a modernized railway network.”
