Assam: Inmate dies in Silchar Jail, suicide claimed

Guwahati: A person lodged at the Silchar Central Jail in Cachar, Assam was found dead on Tuesday which the police have claimed to be a suicide.

Reports state that the person who died by suicide was Dilwar Hussain Laskar.

He was accused of rape and was in custody for almost two months, reports stated.

The police said that fellow inmates reported the incident and the investigation team and jail authorities reached the site immediately.

His body was sent to the SMCH for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The police said that all angles into the incident would be investigated.
