Assam HSLC Math Exam: Education minister assures marks for out-of-syllabus questions
Guwahati: Contrary to the allegations raised by a section of students and parents that there were out-of-syllabus questions on Mathematics of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC), Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu on Friday said the students would get marks if there was any question out-of-the-syllabus in the paper.
“We are examining the matter. SEBA has been directed to give the marks if there was Anaya question out-if-syllabus,” Pegu told reporters in Guwahati on Friday.
It has been alleged that questions number 46 and 61 in the Mathematics paper were included from out-of-syllabus of the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) for the HSLC exam this year. Bot the questions were of 25 marks.
The students have also questioned the authorities whether they have a shortage of questions from the SEBA syllabus to add to the question paper so they had to include it from out of the syllabus.
Pegu said “The students will get the mark if there are out-of-syllabus questions on paper.”
“Since last year, I repeatedly said that the pattern of the question paper would be changed for this year’s examination. There were many complaints that with the existing pattern of question papers, no student from Assam could compete in the national competitive examinations. It was a long-standing demand,” the minister said.
“We have conducted many workshops and training for teachers. There is a need to change the pattern of questions. Earlier SEBA and CBSE exam patterns were different. But this time the two exam patterns have been made the same,” the minister said.
“Moreover, the question paper has not been made difficult. The questions are asked in a new pattern,” he also said.
“Finally, we have changed the pattern of questions to help them to compete in All India competitive exams, including exams conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and Staff Selection Commission (SSC),” Pegu also said.
“We are changing the question paper pattern with the National Education Policy (NEP),” he added.
