As the proceedings began, Patowary informed members that they could take oath in any recognised language of their choice and submit copies to the Assembly office.

MLAs from different parties subsequently took oath in Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and Sanskrit, reflecting the linguistic diversity of the House.

The swearing-in ceremony was held after the NDA returned to power in Assam with a decisive mandate in the Assembly elections. The alliance comprising the BJP, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) secured 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly.

The BJP won 82 seats, while the AGP and BPF secured 10 seats each.

In the opposition, the Congress won 19 seats, while Raijor Dal secured two seats. The AIUDF and Trinamool Congress won two and one seat respectively.
