Assam: Guwahati-based BitChem wins sustainable material innovation award in New Delhi
Guwahati: Guwahati-based BitChem Asphalt Technologies Limited from Assam won the “Sustainable Material Innovation of the Year” award in New Delhi at the Build India Infra Awards 2026 for its pollution-free, zero-emission road binder, Green Bitumen.
The award recognises BitChem’s efforts in promoting energy-efficient, environmentally friendly road construction. The technology has been successfully deployed in a 51-km project by the Road Construction Department, Government of Bihar.
BitChem is a Technology Development Board-funded venture under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
The award was presented by Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in the presence of Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.
Green Bitumen is a cold-mix binder technology that eliminates the need for conventional hot-mix asphalt. It reduces fuel consumption, avoids greenhouse gas emissions, produces zero on-site air pollution, and delivers durable, high-performance roads.
Commenting on the achievement, BitChem Chairman SK Jain said, “This award validates our commitment to Net Zero and circular economy-based road construction solutions. Green Bitumen proves that sustainable materials can deliver both environmental benefits and strong field performance. As an innovation from Northeast India, BitChem contributes to a progressive and Viksit Bharat in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
BitChem also acknowledged its R&D partner, UC Sahoo of IIT Bhubaneswar, for his team’s research and technical support in developing and validating Green Bitumen.
With increasing adoption by government agencies, BitChem’s Green Bitumen is positioned as a sustainable technology for road construction projects across India.
