According to a statement, the initiative culminates efforts by KKHSOU’s leadership. On August 13, 2025, Vice Chancellor Rajendra Prasad Das and Dean, Study Centre (i/c) Pranab Saikia met with the District Commissioner of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, to request government land for the proposed centre.

Yadav provided assurances of full support and subsequently fulfilled his commitment by formally allotting the land via Memo No. E-162506/496593-A, dated 28 November 2025.

The allotted plot, measuring approximately one Bigha, is located on 2nd R.S. Govt. Khas Dag No. 666 of Mouza Srikona Part-I, Porgana Rajnagar, the statement stated.

Expressing gratitude, Vice Chancellor Das thanked the Assam government and DC Yadav for their proactive and timely intervention in advancing higher education in this geographically challenging region.

Das highlighted that KKHSOU currently operates 23 study centres across the three districts of the Barak Valley, serving over ten thousand learners enrolled in diverse academic programmes.

Reaffirming the University’s commitment to taking higher education to the doorstep of every household, Das also noted the introduction of the MA in Bengali programme from the July 2025 session, honouring a long-standing aspiration of the region’s people.
