Assam Government Holiday List 2026
Guwahati: The General Administration Department (GAD) of Assam on Monday released the official holiday list for the year 2026.
The holiday list includes a comprehensive range of public holidays, festivals, and observances, during which government offices and all Revenue and Magisterial Courts in the state will remain closed.
According to the notification, a total of 35 full holidays have been listed for the year.

The government has also announced a half-holiday on October 25 for Lakshmi Puja.
In addition, several festival days have been declared as holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, including Magh Bihu, Republic Day, Bohag Bihu, May Day, Id-ul-Zuha, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, and Christmas.
The notification further states that all second and fourth Saturdays will be observed as holidays, while other Saturdays will remain working days.
For 2026, employees may avail two Restricted Holidays, chosen from a list of 39 festivals including New Year’s Day, Sivaratri, Easter Saturday, Deuri Bihu, Fateha-e-Dwaz-Daham, Kuki Chavang Kut, Martyr’s Day, and Christmas Eve. ?
Special provisions have also been made for certain districts. On the occasion of Ali-Aye Ligang, a full holiday will be granted to 11 districts, including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and others, while the rest of the state will observe a Restricted Holiday.
The GAD has also permitted district administrations to declare one local holiday, except in Kamrup (Metro), while two additional holidays may be announced for Kamrup (M) with the Chief Minister’s approval.
Two extra holidays may be declared statewide by the department if required.
Flexibility for Educational Institutions:
The notification clarifies that the holiday list will not automatically apply to educational institutions or medical and engineering colleges unless they adopt it.
Institutions have been encouraged to reduce the number of holidays to maintain academic calendars.
