Assam: Girijananda Chowdhury University & AIIMS-Guwahati forge research collaboration
GUWAHATI: Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU) in Assam and the esteemed All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Guwahati have joined hands to foster collaborative efforts in academia and research through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU, a significant milestone, was formalized during a ceremony held at AIIMS, where Prof. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS, Guwahati, and Prof. Dipankar Saha, Registrar of GCU, Assam, sealed the agreement.
This collaboration symbolizes a shared commitment between the two institutions to embark on joint research programs focusing on interdisciplinary areas of specialization that are of mutual interest and relevance.
Central to this partnership are research endeavors aimed at exploring the correlation between heavy metals and various diseases, as well as investigations into the integration of traditional and modern medicine.
Additionally, the collaboration seeks to conduct research spanning various domains, including in-silico, in-vitro, in-vivo, and clinical studies, with the goal of identifying and developing novel biomarkers, evaluating therapeutic targets, and assessing the efficacy and safety of new formulations.
A key focus of this collaboration is addressing the healthcare needs of the population in Northeast India, recognizing the unique challenges and requirements of the region.
Utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, the partnership aims to delve into novel molecular targets and validate their relevance in the context of various human diseases, with a specific emphasis on the Northeast.
Importantly, all research activities conducted under this partnership will adhere to a stringent ethical framework, ensuring integrity and transparency throughout the process.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by distinguished personalities, including Dr. Subash Chandra Gupta, Professor & Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Dr. Phulen Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Prof. Sunayan Bardoloi, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, Prof. Bhanu P Sahu, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, alongside other dignitaries from both AIIMS and GCU.
