Assam: Gaurav Gogoi kicks off ‘Jati Bosauk, Mati Bosauk’ yatra in Dhakuakhana
North Lakhimpur: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Saturday kicked off the Jati Bosauk, Mati Bosauk campaign at Dhakuakhana in Assam's Lakhimpur district.
Organised by the Assam Youth Congress Committee, the campaign focuses on land rights, constitutional principles and the rights of the state’s tribal communities, and aims to create public awareness through a pada yatra (foot march).
Gogoi, who arrived in Dhakuakhana from Dibrugarh, participated in a large yatra before addressing a public rally in the sub-division. Addressing the gathering, the APCC president said Assamese society is inherently inclusive, with people from all walks of life, irrespective of caste, creed and community, having fought together for India’s independence and the progress of Assam.
“We are the people of Bor Asom, and we want to live in peace and harmony. But ‘Mama’, like Kansh, has created divisions among brothers to remain in power,” Gogoi said.
He alleged that divisive political forces have, from time to time, created rifts between Ahoms and Misings, Karbis and Bhojpuris, and between the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys, and asserted that Assam would not be divided.
The rally was also addressed by former Lakhimpur MLA Ghana Buragohain and senior Congress leader Dr Joy Prakash Das.
