Assam: Notorious gangster killed in police shoot-out in Hailakandi

SILCHAR: In a dramatic turn of events, a suspected gangster with a history of criminal activity was killed in a shoot-out with police in Hailakandi district of Assam on Monday (May 27).

The deceased, identified as Afzal Hussain Barhuiya, was one of most wanted criminals in Assam, according to police reports.

The incident, captured on CCTV footage, shows Barhuiya and his accomplice arriving at a market in a Santro car.

As police officers closed in, the accomplice exited the vehicle and fled the scene, leaving Barhuiya in the driver's seat.

In the footage, a police officer is seen attempting to apprehend Barhuiya by grabbing his hand.

In a desperate bid to escape, Barhuiya tried to snatch the officer's gun, leading to the fatal shoot-out.

The police stated that Barhuiya had multiple cases against him and was known for his involvement in various criminal activities.

The incident is under further investigation, and efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.

The authorities have not disclosed additional details but assured the public that measures are being taken to ensure safety and security in the area.
