Assam: Erosion hits Dhola–Sadiya link road following pre-monsoon rains; commuters at risk

Doomdooma: Continuous pre-monsoon showers since Rongali Bihu have severely damaged a crucial 4-kilometre link road connecting Dhola Bazar to the Sadiya Bridge in Assam’s Tinsukia district, disrupting connectivity and posing serious safety risks to commuters.
According to local residents, persistent rainfall has triggered soil erosion along the stretch, leaving large potholes and unstable patches.
“It is a serious threat,” said a daily commuter, describing how the road surface has caved in at multiple points.
The situation is particularly dangerous as the road is flanked by deep ditches and surrounding wetlands, increasing the likelihood of major accidents.
Despite the deteriorating condition, there are no warning signs, lights, or indicators to alert drivers, especially during night hours.
Locals allege that the absence of immediate intervention from the authorities has further compounded the risk.
The affected road runs adjacent to the iconic Bhupen Hazarika Setu, a major tourist attraction and strategic lifeline connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The damage has not only inconvenienced daily commuters but also affected tourist movement in the area.
Residents have urged the district administration to take urgent repair measures and install safety mechanisms before the full onset of the monsoon worsens the situation further.
