Assam: Elephant population in Manas rises amid successful rehabilitation of rescued trio

Bajali: Three elephants brought from Assam's Udalguri district to Manas National Park, named Pompi, Nageswar, and Lili, are now safe, healthy, and adapting to their new environment, according to forest officials.

The forest department has been providing care for the trio since their arrival.

Park authorities report that the elephants have become accustomed to the presence of tourists.

The elephants often approach visitors and accept food offered to them, a behaviour that has drawn attention from park visitors.

Officials also note that the population of wild elephants in Manas is steadily increasing, which they consider a positive sign for both conservation efforts and Assam’s tourism sector.

The presence of healthy elephant herds, along with the rehabilitation of rescued elephants, indicates growing wildlife conditions in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tourists visiting Manas National Park continue to observe the elephants, with Pompi, Nageswar, and Lili now a regular part of the park’s wildlife.
