Assam: Elderly couple dies after devastating market fire in Bongaigaon

Guwahati: A massive fire in Bongaigaon, Assam claimed the lives of an elderly couple on Friday night.

According to reports, the fire took place in the Bashbari market, claiming the lives of the couple.

The deceased were identified as Dulal Bhattacharya and his wife Koushalya Bhattacharya.

The couple, who owned a tea stall within the market, tragically lost their lives while asleep.

The fire, which is believed to have been sparked by a cylinder blast in a nearby shop, ravaged three establishments, including the Bhattacharyas' tea stall, destroying goods worth lakhs.

Although fire tenders promptly arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze, the damage was already "extensive".
