Assam: Elderly couple attacked, robbed by caretaker in Nagaon
Guwahati: An elderly couple was violently attacked and robbed at their residence in Morikalong in central Assam's Nagaon town, police said.
The victims, retired education department employee Harendra Nath Bora and his wife, Dipti Bora, were allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by their caretaker, Prabhat Hazarika.
The caretaker reportedly fled the scene following the assault, taking cash and other valuables.
Police sources confirmed that Hazarika had resided with the couple for a period. The preliminary assessment indicates that the motive for the attack was robbery.
Both individuals sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalized for medical treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable, though they remain under close observation.
The incident has caused shock among local residents, who described the couple as respected members of the community.
Police have registered a case under the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) and have initiated a manhunt to apprehend the accused.
