Assam: DSP Upen Kalita takes over APSC cash-for-job scam probe
Guwahati: On Wednesday, Assam Police DSP Upen Kalita was assigned to lead the investigation into the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam.
This decision followed a special court's directive to remove Prateek Thube, the previous Special Investigation Team (SIT) officer in charge. The court's order came in response to allegations of Thube's laxity and inadequate investigation into the case.
Prateek Thube, who had led the SIT for nearly nine months, submitted a charge sheet on June 20.
However, significant omissions in the charge sheet were noted by Special Judge Dipak Thakuria, who expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation.
Consequently, the judge ordered further inquiry and mandated Thube's removal, directing that a DSP-level officer take over the investigation.
In compliance with the court's directive, DSP Upen Kalita has now been appointed to continue the probe, replacing Prateek Thube.
