Assam: Diju River overflows again, fresh floods hit Nagaon's Amoni Revenue Circle
Guwahati: Heavy rainfall in the Karbi Hills has once again caused the Diju River, which forms the boundary between Assam's Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts, to overflow, triggering fresh floods in several low-lying areas and worsening the plight of residents still recovering from the previous inundation.
The swollen river has submerged Shiyalekhaiti, Kalapani and several other villages under the Amoni Revenue Circle in Nagaon district. Floodwaters have entered residential areas and agricultural land, disrupting normal life and affecting thousands of people living in the affected localities.
This is the second major flooding incident in the region within the past two weeks, leaving many families grappling with repeated displacement and mounting losses. Residents whose homes and farmlands were damaged during the earlier floods are once again facing the challenge of rising water levels and limited access to essential services.
The renewed flooding has also dealt a severe blow to agriculture, with vast tracts of cropland remaining submerged. Farmers fear significant crop losses, raising concerns over the long-term impact on livelihoods in the flood-hit areas.
As rainfall continues in the upper catchments, residents have expressed concern that the situation could worsen in the coming days. With water levels remaining high, people living in villages along the Diju River are closely monitoring the situation and hoping for an early improvement in weather conditions.
