Digboi: Amid heightened security alerts across Assam following the recent IED blast at a Delhi Metro station, Digboi police on Tuesday seized a suspected commercial four-wheeler with forged registration documents from Charali Bazar in Tinsukia district.

According to police sources, the seized vehicle, a Bolero pick-up, had been operating in and around the town for commercial purposes despite bearing a falsified registration number.

Acting on a credible tip-off regarding its constant movement, a team from Digboi Police intercepted the vehicle and brought it under immediate investigation.

“The possessor of the vehicle failed to produce any relevant documents to establish legal ownership,” a police source confirmed.

An eyewitness at the scene claimed that the illegal possessor, taking advantage of the crowd during the police operation, removed the number plate himself in an attempt to dupe the officers.

The act reportedly caused brief confusion before the situation was brought under control.

A local businessman from Charali Bazar, familiar with the vehicle, stated that it was reportedly purchased from a person in the Golaghat area who had outstanding liabilities toward a finance company.

He further alleged that the current possessor, also a businessman, might have altered the registration number to evade repayment or avoid action from the finance company.

The incident has drawn attention at a time when the recent IED blast near Delhi’s Red Fort involved a privately owned i20 vehicle, raising serious nationwide security concerns.

The operation of illegally registered vehicles in Tinsukia district has prompted questions about local enforcement and the vigilance of the transport department.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the vehicle’s origin, verify ownership records, and determine if it has any links to unlawful activities.

Security checks have since been intensified across the district as precautionary measures.
